Made up of several islands operating as different nations, the Leeward Islands span some 120 miles from Anguilla to Dominica. The Leeward Islands have a diverse geography ranging from lush rainforests to sandy coral islands and giant volcanic craters. Such diversity is echoed by a rich history and a variety of nationalities, cultures and cuisines that make the Leeward Islands a wonderful destination for luxury yacht charters and guarantee visitors a unique cruising experience.

Sample Itinerary

Day

1

Begin your Leeward Islands yacht charter at the Antigua Yacht Club in Falmouth Harbor. Antigua is the largest of the Leeward Islands and was named by Christopher Columbus after a church in Spain, Santa Maria La Antigua (St. Mary the Ancient). Antigua is known for its beaches and colonial sites which include Shirley Heights, a rambling array of gun emplacements and military buildings which offer breathtaking views over the English Harbour.

2

Sail from Falmouth Harbor to Green Island or Nonsuch Bay and anchor for the night. Green Island is uninhabited and makes a perfect destination if you are seeing a secluded destination and a sense of space. Nonsuch Bay is located at the eastern end of Antigua and its sheltered waters offer an ideal location for snorkelling. If you fancy an evening on land you might like to visit Harmony Hall, a striking former sugar mill estate that now operates as a restaurant, guest-house and gallery.

3

Sail to Barbuda, an island dedicated to nature. Barbuda is lined with pink and white beaches which are great for sunbathing while the surrounding waters are abundant with living coral reefs and ancient shipwrecks making them a great location snorkelling. The island also has a number of exclusive resorts where visitors can enjoy a game of tennis or golf. To the north of Barbuda you will find the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, home to 170 different species and over five thousand frigate birds.

Leave Barbuda and sail to the northern side of Antigua, stopping at Five Islands Peninsula a group of four crescent-shaped beaches located on Antigua's northwest coast. Here you will find a range of beaches, perfect for swimming and sunbathing, and a collection of beautiful landscaped gardens. Nearby, Deep Bay is a popular spot for snorkelling and the wreck of the Andes, a merchant ship which sank in 1908, lies in just 20ft of water.

5&6

Leave Antigua early for the islands of Nevis and St Kitts, which together comprise the smallest sovereign nation in the Americas. Anchor in Majors at the southern end for the evening. If you are interested in golf, anchor at Oualie Beach and play at the Four Seasons and if you are there between December 17th and January 3rd, be sure to visit the Carnival which takes place on St Kitts.

7-9

Spend several days in gorgeous St Barts. playground of the rich and famous and home to some pristine beaches, gourmet restaurants and some great clothes shopping. Amongst the islands celebrated resorts, Anse des Flamands offers a lovely beach and a superb restaurant for lunch ashore and horseback riding is also available. St Barts is also a great location for scuba diving and snorkelling and amongst the bountiful marine-life you can spot nurse sharks, lobsters and conch.

10&11

Leave St Barts for Anguilla, the northernmost of the Leeward Islands and home to fabulous white sandy beaches, great dining, and warm and friendly people. Anchor in Crocus Bay for the night and during the day visit the Prickley Pear Cays a pair of uninhabited islands that are abundant in marine and bird life and are also a popular location for scuba diving.

12-14

In the morning leave Anguilla and steam to Orient Bay, St Maarten for some great shopping. After lunch, head to the eastern side of Grand Case Bay, a sweeping curve of white sandy beach where you can enjoy some great swimming and snorkelling. On your last evening enjoy a sunset stroll and take in one of the many restaurants offering panoramic views of the bay. Leave Grand Case for Port de Plaisance for disembarkation the next day.
