Sample Itinerary

Day

1&2

Beginning your yacht charter in Tahiti, cruise to the island of Moorea. During the day you can tour the island by four-wheel drive vehicle or motor scooter, swim with manta rays, and enjoy good diving on the outer reef. Anchor overnight at Moorea. The next morning, move to a different anchorage on the island and spend the day snorkelling, fishing or simply relaxing on the beach. Depart the second night after dinner for the island of Huahine.

Day

3&4

You arrive at Huahine early in the morning. There are numerous excellent anchorages on this island and a host of activities including deep-sea fishing, diving, hiking, horseback riding and cycling. One of the main attractions of the island is a bridge that crosses a small stream with 3-6 foot (1.8m) eels, which are deemed sacred by the local people. Circle the island by tender with a picnic lunch and afterwards visit the small local village for some shopping.

Day

5

On the fifth day of your Tahiti yacht charter sail to the islands of Raiatea and Taha’a, a distance of 25 miles (approximately two and half hours) from Huahine. The two islands are enclosed by a coral reef and it is thought that they may have once constituted a single island. Circumnavigate the islands inside the reef, visit the many pearl farms and enjoy a performance by local dancers. Anchor overnight at Taha’a.

Day

6&7

Depart mid-afternoon for the island of Bora Bora, a distance of 20 miles (about two hours). A lagoon and a barrier reef surround the island, while two peaks, which constitute the remains of an extinct volcano, define the centre of the island. Explore the island by land, and walk to the summit of Mount Otemanu, for a spectacular view of the lagoon and its amazing colours. In the evening, explore the inside of the reef by tender and watch the shark feeding, before departing on an evening flight to Tahiti.

Tahiti’s glorious pearls come in a very attractive array of colors from black to green to bronze to dark or pale grey. I have yet to return from French Polynesia without a few gorgeous Tahitian pearls in my luggage.”
