International Women’s Day: Fraser Yachts profiles eight women yacht designers

Every year, March 8th marks International Women’s Day. With the World Economic Forum estimating in 2015 that the gender gap wouldn't close entirely until 2133 the theme for the 2016 International Women’s Day is #PledgeforParity. This year Fraser Yachts profiles eight female yacht designers who have carved out a path for themselves in the yachting industry.
In no particular order, the women Fraser Yachts has chosen to celebrate are:

1.       Fiona Diamond – Seymour Diamond

Royal-Romance_Running A graduate of the Chelsea School of Art, Fiona Diamond honed her Superyacht design skills at Terence Disdale Design, working on over 30 projects including 164m M/Y ECLIPSE. In 2010 she founded her firm Seymour Diamond. Her recent projects include the interior design of Feadship’s 92.5m M/Y ROYAL ROMANCE (pictured right). Follow Fiona on twitter @seymour_diamond    

2.       Sandrine Melot - Melot + Trillo

Blue Princess starFrench interior designer Sandrine Melot started her career in 1995 and worked successfully for years designing commercial and residential interiors. In 2006, her first yacht project, 34m Blue Princess Star (pictured left) won a World Superyacht Award. In 2011 she founded Melot + Trillo with Anna Trillo. Her recent projects include the interior design of 43m superyacht PHILMI, a finalist at the ShowBoats Awards and the World Superyacht Awards in 2015.

3.       Pascale Reymond – Reymond Langton

Lady-Lara_SeaTrials Pascale Reymond manages Reymond Langton design, a company she founded in 2001 with Andrew Langton. She believes in creating designs that are as beautiful as they are functional and is renowned for her superb attention to detail.  Most recently, Reymond Langton design was responsible for the exterior and interior design of 91m Lürssen superyacht LADY LARA (pictured right) delivered in 2015. 4.       Adriana Monk – Monk DesignHamilton-II

A leading designer in the automotive industry, Adriana Monk has designed the interiors for many luxury car brands, including Rolls Royce and Land Rover, before turning her hand to superyachts. Her work has received international acclaim including a World Superyacht Award for her contribution to the design of the Wally Cento “HAMILTON II” (pictured left).    

5.       Francesca Muzio – FM Architettura d’Interni

150916_FB264_Saloon_image05Cofounder of this Italian design house, Francesca Muzio spearheads various projects which range from hotels to superyachts. Notable projects include the Signature Suites in the Shangri-La hotel at the Shard in London, 52m M/Y AMORE MIO and in 2015 63m superyacht Benetti FB264 (pictured right).
   

6.       Daniela Zulli – Terence Disdale Design

Daniela Zulli is a director at Terence Disdale Design. She has had a big hand in many of the studio’s most notable projects, including 147m Lürssen superyacht TOPAZ (pictured left).    

 7.       Laura Pomponi - Luxury Projects

koji_SaloonWith a degree in engineering, extensive experience in the project management of superyachts and a glamorous shoe collection Laura Pomponi founded her company in 2008 and designs not only superyachts but also private jets and homes. Notable projects include the interior design of 35m superyacht KOJI (pictured right) that went on to win an award at the 2013 World Superyacht Awards.

 8.       Laura Sessa Romboli

An internationally renowned name in the interior design of superyachts Laura Sessa Romboli was responsible for the design of CRN’s 80m CHOPI CHOPI for which she won a ShowBoats Design Award for its interior. She also designed the interior of 52m superyacht LADY NAG NAG, one of the successful Amels Limited Edition and the only one on today’s market.
