Planned Expansion of Newport Shipyard Close to Completion

Newport Shipyard
The historic Newport Harbor in Rhode Island, which is home to and a popular port for some of the most impressive sailing and motor yachts in the world, is soon going to attract even more super yachts. This follows huge investment by Newport Shipyard in response to the growing numbers of luxury yachts wishing to dock there and visit this world famous yachting destination.
The investment will mean that from summer 2013 Newport Shipyard will be able to haul luxury yachts of up to 60m for repair work. Vessels of this size were previously too large for the shipyard. By June a new 500 tonne travelift will have been installed, offering many more vessels a full range of improved facilities for repair work. Other new improved features will include night time work lights for emergency haul outs and a sound suppression package to reduce engine noise. This major New England refit and docking yard, which hosts many world class yachting events, and where you can see state of the art luxury yachts for sale and charter yachts, currently provides dockage for yachts up to 107m and hauls yachts up to 46m. From summer 2013 Newport Shipyard will have both the 100 tonne lift, which is currently operating at the yard, plus the new 500 tonne lift which will replace the 300 tonne lift bought 12 years ago. The new purchase will be the largest travelift operating in New England and its arrival is sure to provide a boost for the marine industry in Rhode Island.
