Welcome to the Crush series

Many of you will know, and some of you will have already enjoyed many happy days on board the ever-popular 34m (109’) charter yacht ROBBIE BOBBY.

What you may not know is that her owner, Ian Worboys, is also the author of an amazing series of children’s books based on the tales he recounted to his own children as they were growing up and which today are helping to raise money for a greatly-underfunded cause.

With a mission to support parents looking to connect with and inspire their children in a new way, the Crush Series is aimed at children aged between 3-6 years. The books, of which Frog Crush is the first, are set in different countries and locations so children get to learn about animals and foods from continents they have never been to. They use rhyming English, songs and a range of interactive activities to stimulate young inquisitive minds about the world and animals around them and how our thoughts and actions, no matter how small, can change everything.

“Parenting was a personal development experience for me and, I am sure, for many others,” says Ian. “I soon discovered that not taking yourself too seriously and being playful are key to capturing children’s hearts and imagination. Feed young readers with imagination and the results will stay in their lives forever!”

Creating the series was part of a bucket list of things Ian decided he wanted to achieve following the sudden death of his son Robert at the age of just 27 from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) in January 2016.

Setting up the Robbie Bobby Foundation, the Worboys family focused their efforts on raising awareness of the syndrome worldwide especially amongst young people. SADS has no early symptoms so screening is vital. One recent screening initiative of 200 boys and girls at Robert’s former UK school revealed no less than 8 cases needing further investigation and 2 cases requiring immediate surgery. And as an example of how successful funds invested in preventive screening can be, Italy which offers a strong programme of prevention, records one of the lowest rates of death from SADS anywhere in the world.

The Foundation aims to provide support for young people creating opportunities for their personal and sports development. The books are the latest initiative to help raise much needed extra funds and a way to show parents and children alike that something good can always come out of any sad situation in life.

Launched at the end of 2018, Frog Crush has been purchased by families around the world and is already being used by educators in schools and kindergartens. It will soon be available in a selection of animal parks and centres around Europe, and today the Four Seasons in London offers complimentary copies to families checking into the hotel with children.

With the 2nd book in the series, Monkey Crush, soon to be released, why not treat your children to a fresh and fun way to look at life…and become a part of the community Ian and the Worboys family are working so hard to grow.
