As we come to the end of a record year in which Fraser has sold over 100 vessels, and clients throughout the industry have purchased over 750 yachts, Raphael told the CNBC team: “I can tell you that despite the pandemic it has been quite a ride in 2021 as well as 2020. If I look at the numbers today, we are about 79% ahead of 2020 on the sales front and 96% on 2019.”

As for the reasons for the boom, Raphael told CNBC: “Yachting is going through quite an impressive boom, triggered by the pandemic and the need for many people to escape and experience something new”

And in terms of the future, he remained optimistic that new and existing clients’ passion for yachting will continue as strongly as ever.

“The market is stable and when it comes to what you can get on board the sky has no limit,” said Raphael. “While I foresee a slowdown somewhat next year, the eagerness of our clients to buy boats is still there and it may be challenging to find them the right boat. Probably the charter market will see an additional boom going forward. There is clearly a desire to go on a boat today.”
