eV-Twin Electric Motorbike: Innovation Meets Classic Styling

In the world of yachting, there is a marked interest in both engineering innovation and stylish luxury. When cruising the waters on a stunning vessel, travelling becomes an indulgent event. It follows suit, then, that seafarers have long taken an interest in those gadgets and modes of transport that evoke the same sentiments as yachting: high speed, lavish comfort, innovation, style, and fun. The latest vehicle to emerge in this sphere is the cutting-edge eV-Twin Electric Motorbike.

A stunning feat of engineering, the electric motorbike is constructed using the frame of a classic BSA Bantam and breakthrough electric motors. The result is a unique, vintage aesthetic and a performance that one must experience to believe. Aside from the whir of the chain on the sprocket and the friction of the tyres on the ground, the bike emits barely any sound, thus creating a bizarre phenomenon when it propels forward on command. However, with a built-in sound system, it is possible to replace the roar of the engine with your favourite riding soundtrack.

One might ask: aside from the parallels in style, how does the BSA Bantam concern the yachting industry? The motorbike’s designer and eV-Twin’s Managing director, Steve Smith, is the Captain of a 43.8m luxury superyacht and the vehicle was developed and built onboard the superyacht.

Commenting on his inspiration for the eV-Twin, Captain Steve said: I wanted to create a modern alternative to the BSA Bantam. The original model is impossible to keep on board a yacht due to petrol storage and oil leaking onto the decks. The initial concept came from the need to find a suitable means of transport from my off-grid house in Costa Rica to get to the surf. It seemed wrong to be using solar panels for the house but driving a big V6 SUV to the beach. I thought that an electric motorcycle would be perfect for this application, as well as for use on board a yacht. Most of the electric motorcycles and scooters available on the market are pretty boring; I wanted something that would be as aesthetically pleasing as the early classic British motorcycles but without any of the drawbacks.”

Offering a responsive ride and producing zero-emissions, the eV-Twin is a vehicle that embraces the future of transport. Custom-built carbon-fibre detailing enhances the bike’s image. In the first prototype, lithium-ion batteries power a brushless DC motor, producing an initial top speed of 80 km/h and a range of 80 km. However, the company is currently working to build on these statistics, aiming for a range of 100 km, making the eV-Twin the perfect run-around for yacht Owners and other purveyors of luxury when chartering a yacht in the French Riviera or any other exotic destination.

The breakthrough motorbike has quickly captured the attention of famous celebrities, including celebrated models Dewi Driegen and Gilles Souteyran, as well as Formula One drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Johnny Herbert. As the world’s leading yacht brokerage, Fraser understands the importance of promoting environmental conservation and is a proud supporter of such causes, hence their partnership with PlasticOceans; the eV-Twin is a progressive step towards a healthier planet.

The eV-Twin MK2 is now available to pre-order and delivery is expected for autumn 2017. For more information, contact the team at eV-Twin.
