The georgraphy of Sicily
A rugged and attractive island on the southern tip of Italy, Sicily is counted as one of Italy’s 20 regions. Cut off from the mainland by the Straits of Messina, Sicily covers a total of 25,711 square km making it by far the largest of the Italian islands and the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. The minor islands that surround Sicily, such as the Aeolian Islands, Pantelleria and the Aegadian islands, all fall within the region of Sicily and make for a fascinating Sicilian yacht charter.

Sicily’s Rich Culture
As with all of Italy, Sicily is rich in culture. Fine examples of art, literature, music, cuisine and archaeology can all be found in abundance here with almost every culture in history leaving its mark in some sense on the island.

Greek Archaeology
One of the most popular destinations to visit for those interested in Greek archaeology can be found at Agrigento in Sicily. Seven different sites can be visited in a day trip with the city offering other distractions for those keen to explore further. Visit the largest Greek temple in Sicily at Selinunte on a yacht charter in Italy. Located on the island’s southwestern edge, the Temple of Hera isn’t as accessible as other sites to those restricted to land travel. The ancient port below the site however makes an excellent place to drop anchor for those arriving in Sicily by yacht.

An hour east of Palermo lays the city of Cefalù. Famed worldwide for its export of salt and pepper, it is a city of arguably unrivalled beauty and history. In occupation since ancient times, it lies in the shadow of a giant mountain; climb this and you’ll be treated to one of the finest views over the Mediterranean there is.

Baroque Beauty
On a yacht charter in Sicily the stunning town of Noto, located 40km from Syracuse, is well worth a visit. In this location perfect for a family holiday you will be able to combine culture, exquisite food in the many Michelin starred restaurants, and truly relaxing beach time. The town itself offers many historical delights and is sure to captivate with its baroque architecture and stunning historical centre.
