Fraser Brokers & Managers Discover Bermuda as a Yachting Destination

A short 90-minute flight from New York, Bermuda is an often-overlooked secret that offers a rich array of experiences from history, culture and sports to stunning scenery, nature reserves and the highest level of hospitality.

“The island was so clean and tidy, everywhere you went,” commented Sales Broker Matthew Lester after the trip. “The locals were extremely welcoming, and very proud to share their thoughts on the island. Around every corner, there was another bay to explore with crystal-clear water.”

The itinerary took in a range of the island’s sights, including both the marina facilities in the UNESCO site of St. George’s at the East End of the island with direct access out to the Atlantic and the marina in Hamilton, the capital of the island. Set next to The Sound, the marina is part of the Hamilton Princess Hotel, famed for a modern art collection that spans Banksy, KAWS and Warhol.

The group were also led by local expert Dr. Doreen Williams-James on a forage for native plants on Cooper’s Island, set among the deserted beaches of the nature reserve. Dr. Williams-James offered insight into native species, from sea purslane to wild fennel, and at the end of the tour, the group enjoyed specialty local canapés and drinks prepared using the plants.

Later, a historical tour on electric bikes around St. George’s, finishing in Fort St. Katherine, was accompanied by local historian Kristen White. Taking a step back to the past, the endpoint offered a stunning vantage point over the Atlantic. 

“From a charter perspective, I see a lot of potential for yachts to start including the island in their itineraries,” said Charter Manager Alexia Eude. “More and more clients are looking for something different, and are interested in discovering new destinations and experiences beyond the traditional charter hotspots. This island has the potential to offer exactly that: beautiful scenery, authentic local experiences, culture, history and a real feeling of discovery.”

The island is rich in sporting facilities, seven golf courses including two PGA, plus fantastic sailing and sport fishing, and numerous well-maintained tennis, pickleball and padel courts. It also boasts ultra-high levels of hospitality.

“Bermuda really impressed me as a superyacht destination,” said Charter Broker Eva Hiebert. “Beyond its beautiful pink-sand beaches and turquoise waters, the island offers an excellent mix of activities ashore, from world-class golf and historic sites to watersports and exploring the island’s distinctive towns and coastline, along with a surprisingly strong culinary scene.
