A successful FLIBS fuelled by a buoyant US market

The return of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) saw scores of yacht Owners, motivated Buyers and new and existing charterers attend the show.

Overall attendance was down on normal years but Owners, potential Owners and charterers were out in force, in a sign that the drive to own and experience a private space on the water, which has seen yacht sales reach an all-time high, is not slowing down. And US clients in particular are enjoying and discovering the benefits of yachting like never before.

A few reasons why the US market is driving worldwide sales and charter:

  • Over a quarter of all Americans regularly engage in recreational boating, with an estimated 5.6% of all American adults owning a boat or yacht across all size ranges.

  • The last 18 months have given more Americans than ever a reason to take to the water with families and friends, and in the billionaire census of 2021 by Wealth-X, the number of billionaires in North America increased by 17.5%, the largest increase of any region, with the combined wealth of billionaires increasing by 8%.

  • US home sales also skyrocketed, reaching record highs in 2020-2021 according to the National Association of Realtors, in signs of a highly buoyant economy and an intensified search for more space

"This year's FLIBS proved that the US market is driving worldwide sales and charter. We already know that in 2021, 62% of the total value of all our 2021 sales so far have come from Fraser's US Brokers, and 60% of all Fraser's sales activity happens with US clients. Meeting US buyers at FLIBS, as well as charterers and Owners looking to sell, and listening to their yachting plans and experiences, drove home just how strong the US market is."

Fraser's waterside villa experience, Casa Royal, was created to offer an exclusive and private environment away from the show but within easy access to it. Clients were welcomed to the villa all day to relax, plan yacht visits with their Fraser Brokers and discuss any other yachting plans or business, all while enjoying fine Champagne and spirits courtesy of Perrier-Jouet and and Pernod Ricard (details below). Gifts were provided by Bulgari.

Tender service to and from the show was provided on board dedicated Vanquish, PRJ and Wajer craft.
